Why We Started Marveliz Heart

Our daughter Liz was born with a complex congenital heart defect called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). With the help of a skilled team comprised of her pediatricians, cardiologists, nurses, surgeon, and many others, Liz was able to lead a normal and active life. She was among a peer group for which the surgical procedures and ongoing care approaches for her defect had finally reached a level of refinement that resulted in a significant and repeatable level of success.  We are certainly grateful for Liz’s positive outcome at the leading edge of medical capability. However, things did not go so smoothly as Liz became an adult and transitioned from her childhood team of doctors. We were disappointed to learn there was a gap in care level and professional education among adult caregivers for working with someone having her complex medical background. Based on our experiences, MarveLiz Heart has been created to assist those with congenital heart defects live full lives, and ultimately to help them transition successfully from pediatric care to adult care.
